Douglas Reeman is dying
Sorry but there's really no gentle way to say it. He has been diagnosed with leukemia and is also suffering from pneumonia as well as other ailments. He has only a few months left and wishes to spend them at home. Unfortunately the care that he will need to do that is terribly expensive.
If you've ever enjoyed any of his works perhaps you could donate the price of a book or two to the gofundme page his wife Kim has set up to help raise the money to cover his final expenses.

Re: Douglas Reeman is dying
This is very sad news. I had the privilege of corresponding with Mr. Reeman many years ago concerning a model I'd built of HMS Gorgon from his Midshipman Bolitho books. He was always gracious and generous with his time and compliments. Of course, I've had many hours of enjoyment from his books. I made a small contribution to the GoFundMe campaign and wish it could be more.

Douglas passed away today. The world is a poorer place.

I got the notice from Kimberley today. It is very sad. He will be missed.

Another voice gone. I salute him for the many hours of enjoyment his writing gave me.

Truly, he will 'live on' in the many 'gifts' he gave us and left for future HNF readers to enjoy......much as we did (and still do as we 're-read' them).

In honor of Douglas Reeman's passing, here's my model of HMS Gorgon from his Midshipman Bolitho books.

Re: Douglas Reeman is dying
It will be a little sadder walking past my shelf of Bolitho novels now, but I'll be all the more thankful for his work as and when I re-read them.
May he rest in peace.

Re: Douglas Reeman is dying
I didn't know Mr Reeman had passed until some months after, when I chanced on the site entries that Kim made. I hadn't even known he was sick. I was looking forward to an Adam novel, wondering what Douglas would come up with for a plot, and where he'd place the new book. Learning he had passed away, was like hearing of the death of a friend I hadn't seen in some time, whom I'd been looking forward to seeing soon. I know Kim has had a hard time of it, and I hope she can find some way of remembering the good times first, the times they laughed, had fun, discovered shared likes and dislikes, interests they introduced the other to, even the odd idiosyncracies that bugged them about each other.Doctor Fred wrote:Douglas passed away today.
